Movement and Meaning. Part 4: Witch
- Subtitle
- Witch
- Synopsis
- Shows how it is possible to work with ‘direct message’ in educational dance. Made primarily for use in the Chelsea School of Human Movement, but also has a wider audience. Takes the theme of the witch, basing itself on a dance performance by students at Chelsea that uses that same theme. Demonstrates how material can be researched and used to support a central theme by building up tension and through dynamic. Women’s strength as represented by the medieval witch is contrasted to a contemporary idea of women ‘outsice the system’ - the women of Greenham Common. Kay Lynn explains how the dance was conceived, and the performance is illustrated using still photographs from Greenham Common and woodcuts of medieval witches.
