- Mortgage lenders got their fingers burnt by dealing too freely in the housing boom of the late 1980s. Now they are much more particular about their clientele, but the pendulum may have swung too far the other way. Looks at whether there is a new era of mortgahe rationing which could further depress housing prices in years to come.
