Mitosis: Sending the Genetic Message
- Synopsis
- Shows mitosis occurring in plant and animal cells. Explains the development of a zygote and of clones. Micro-cinematography and time-lapse techniques show plant cells undergoing mitotic division (emphasising the nucleus to see the formation of chromosones). Slow-motion analysis of this footage allows the mitotic stages of protophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase to be seen. Animal cells (blood lymphocytes) are shown undergoing mitosis for comparison. Shows the process of creating a karyotype and explains the stsructure of a DNA mulecule and how DNA replication occurs.
