Minis Make Money
- Synopsis
- Seven selected official British government information films showing how Britain has been portrayed over the last 60 years: 1) Opus (1967, 27 min): an impressionistic survey of the arts in Britain in the 1960s. Shows sculptors and painters at work, a display of Mary Quant fashions, examples of modern architecture, excerpts from three Royal Shakespeare Company productions, including ‘Hamlet’ directed by Peter Hall with David Warner as Hamlet, a sequence from a Frederick Ashton ballet, and work by Henry Moore and Francis Bacon; 2) Treble One Squadron: (1961, 21 min.): the RAF Black Arrows Squadron performs air-to-air aerobatics and formation flying; 3) Michael and the Flying Boats (1947, 14 min): Young Michael celebrates his birthday with a special treat - examining and flying in a flying boat;
4) Disgusted Binchester (1973, 8 min): animation showing how the Race Relations Act is intended to protect everyone. ‘Disgusted’, presented as the personification of all those law-abiding individuals who oppose reforms, writes to a newspaper in protest against moves to outlaw racial discrimination in Britain. Eventually mollified when shown that the Act can protect not only others, but also Disgusted himself, from discrimination, he is left in full cry against equal pay for women; 5) Mini-Skirts Make Money (1968, 1 min): shows mini skirts and fashions of the 1960s as worn in Carnaby Street, London. Visits boutiques and clothes shops including Lady Jane, Chelsea Girl and Countdown; 6, 7) two bonus items. - Series
