Milk Ejection Reflex, The

Synopsis
Based on years of experimentation to determine how milk is secreted from the mammary gland, the film shows the chemical mechanism involved: electrical stimulation of the nerve supply to the posterior pituitary evokes a positive milk ejection response. The effects of the suckling stimulus upon the mammary gland are shown using the skull and nipple of an anaesthetised rabbit. Milk is extruded when the electrode stimulus to the brain is activated. Made at the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Oxford.
