Microbioassay of Hormones, The

Synopsis
The cytochemical bioassay system represents a new approach to the bioassay of hormones. These cytochemical bioassays are 500-1999 times more sensitive than the equivalent radioimmunoassays. The basis of this approach is that a hormone will affect certain biochemical activities in the specific target cells. These can now be measured, with considerable precision, by the newly developed methods of quantitative cytochemistry and microdensitometry. Methods for the sensitive bioassay of ACTH, LH, TSH, LATS and gastrin are described; the plasma is diluted 1/100 and 1/1000.
