Micro-Vascular Surgery in Stroke Prophylaxis
- Synopsis
- Illustrates the techniques of extra-intracranial arterial bypass taking a typical patient and observing his progress through pre-operative assessment and subsequent surgery. Assessment includes full medical, neurological and psychiatric history and examination, measurement of cerebral blood flow, computerised EEG, CAT scan, Doppler assessment of extracranial vasculature and psychometric assessment including the Halstead-Reitan battery of tests. To date, the series includes 110 procedures undertaken over four and a half years with one post-operative death and one stroke. Subsequent motor transient ischaemic attacks and strokes have been minimal.
