At the Winter Sea Ice Camp

Synopsis
The series shows how life used to be among the Netsilik when they still lived apart and depended on the land and their own ingenuity to sustain life through the rigours of the Arctic year. The filming was done in the Pelly Bay region of the Canadian Arctic. In 3 parts: 1 (36 min): Shows the arrival of a group of people with dog-drawn sledges at a site on the sea ice where they are to set up camp. They cut blocks of snow and build igloos. In the morning, two men set out with a dog team over the ice to hunt seals at their breathing holes in the ice. After a long wait a seal is harpooned, dug out and brought back to camp; 2 (36 min): Life at the campsite. Children amuse themselves with makeshift toys. Women tend their children, make clothes, and repair the igloos. When the men return with their catch, everyone goes inside where work, storytelling and games occupy their time.
