Merchant of Venice, The: Law and Life

Synopsis
Cassette with script by Richard Selerie and a 33-frame black and white filmstrip on The Merchant of Venice. The themes considered include the matter of rules and law, a theme which evidently united the plots of the bond and the caskets. Closely analyses the dramatic dynamics of the courtroom scene and the apparent opposition between mercy and justice. The filmstrip is mainly of photographs from the 1965 production at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre with Eric Porter as Shylock and Janet Suzman as Portia.
