Mende of Kpuawala Village, The

Synopsis
The Mende of Sierra Leone are mainly rice farmers, who also grow some cash crops. The film shows that development projects and their timetables favoured by the new chief can sometimes clash with local values and social obligations. Men are allowed several wives. Women are apparently subordinate, but male and female forms of power are complementary and interdependent.
