At Home in My Street: Exploring Home Zones in the Netherlands and Germany

Synopsis
Part of a campaign started in 1996 by the Children’s Play Council, Transport 2000 and others to bring home zones to the UK. A home zone is a street or group of streets in which pedestrians and cyclists have priority and cars travel at little more than walking pace. In July 1999 Transport 2000 organised a tour of home zones in the Netherlands and Germany for UK community groups and local authorities. The video shows what they discovered, and aims to help groups of residents begin the process of discussion and action that is involved in planning and creating streets that are shared spaces in which people are more important than motor traffic.
