Mass Media, The
- Synopsis
- Side 1: Jeremy Tunstall and Peter Jenkins distinguish between ‘audience effects’ and ‘system effects’, and consider the ways in which politicians seek to use the media. The press and television are then contrasted and the discussion closes with a treatment of the problem of responsibility in media presentation of news. Side 2: Peter Jenkins and Jeremy Tunstall outline the structure of the media in Britain and contrast it with that of the USA, distinguishing between fact and opinion; discuss leaks, news management, review techniques and conventions of censorship.
