Assessment in Social Care: Gathering Evidence

Synopsis
Uses the standards developed by the Integration Project of the Care Sector consortium and includes the Value Base Unit that form the Awards in Care. Looks in details at the process of agreeing how to gather evidence, what is appropriate and relevant, how much evidence is needed and the conclusions that can be drawn. Uses three real case studies: a) A care worker in a long stay hospital ward with elderly women who have learning difficulties or are confused. Shows the care that must be taken in not intruding into the privacy of clients. b) A home carer working with a young man who has MS. Illustrates the complexities of assessing a care worker who bears enormous emotional stress and who is not used to discussing her work. c) A residential social worker in a children’s unit. A team meeting and other opportunities for discussion make gathering evidence easier.
