Mankind
- Synopsis
- A recording of a production by the London University Dramatic society of the morality play ‘Mankind’, which was written around 1475. It is the earliest surviving ‘interlude’, showing evidence of having been performed by a small touring company of professional actors, on at least one occasion in an inn yard. The student actors in this production have come to the play without any academic preconceptions, intending it to be an informal Christmas entertainment. The result is a lively, provocative peformance which should stimulate interest in early drama in the uninitiated and raise new qeustions for those already familiar with it.
