Mandela: From Prison to President

Synopsis
A portrait of Nelson Mandela, filmed during the campaign that resulted in 15 million black South Africans having the chance to vote for the first time for a government of their choice. It explores Mandela’s strengths and weaknesses through interviews with some of his close friends and relatives, including his estranged wife Winnie and his daughter Zindzi. Examines what has motivated him through years of hardship to finally bring about the liberation of his people and examines the problems he will face in the future. Looks at the personal side of his makeup and reveals a life of great sacrifice. Shows him on the campaign trail into Natal, one of South Africa’s most deadly war zones, and as he addresses militant supporters in Ivory Park squatter camp outside Johannesburg.
