Management in Education (3 Parts)

Synopsis
1: A panel interviews three candidates for a Scale II post in a primary school. Shows many classical errors, such as the inclusion of an internal candidate who has little chance of being appointed. The inexperienced members of the panel grapple with a situation for which they are ill-prepared and the viewer is invited to analyse their faults. Using flashbacks, the errors are then summarised and the programmme ends with a code of good practice.
2: The unsuccessful internal candidate approaches the Head in order to express her dissatisfaction with the way she has been treated. The grievance interview as conducted by the Head and the errors are highlighted. Ten key points are made about grievance interview techniques.
3: The successful candidate reappears when the Head decides to conduct a performance review at the end of her first term. Examines the interview, for which the Head is unprepared, and illustrates the misunderstandings that can occur. The viewer is then invited to analyse the errors before watching the same interview again. On this occasion the Head is properly prepared and the tape ends with a code of good practice.
