Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, The

Synopsis
A video recording of Michael Nyman’s only opera, first performed at the ICA in the late 1980s. It tells the story of musicologist Dr P and the neurological condition that caused him to gradually lose a sense of the physical world around him until he finally mistook his own wife for a hat. Dr Oliver Sachs wrote the case history which is the basis of the opera. There is an accompanying spoken text in which Sachs explains the case and its importance.
