- A history of heat engine development from Hero of Alexandria to Rudolph Diesel. Includes archival film of old machinery in motion including steam engines (Crofton, Youngs Brewery at Wandsworth), ships, early tracked vehicles, cars, lorries etc. The final section considers the decline of fossil fuels and other potential sources of power. The film is composed mainly of stills and diagrams. The latter show technical processes. Stills of engines are combined with archival film of engines in motion.
