Malcolm Morley: The Outsider

Synopsis
Malcolm Morley (b.1931), the English-born ‘enfant terrible’ of American art, learned to paint in prison, and abandoned photorealism for a succession of styles. In this film he is shown talking to Patrick Malahide and critic David Sylvester about the experiences that informed his wry outlook, and painting two canvases - one part of a series inspired by his travels in Greece, and the other a watercolour in London Zoo. While in London he also revisits the painting of his youth, an experience that has significant consequences at the end of the film.
