Assault on the Sepik

Synopsis
All species of pine trees are susceptible to attack by the wood wasp, ‘Sirex noctillio’. When Sirex was first discovered on the Australian mainland in 1961, the softwood plantations of Southern Australia were threatened with destruction. The film describes the essential phases of pest control - identification of the natural home of the pest and the search for identification of its natural parasites. Shows the research programme on the large scale harvesting and rearing of parasites and their release into infected areas.
