Making It Home: Achieving Quality in Residential Homes

Synopsis
A staff development package designed to promote quality in residential homes by enhancing observation skills and encouraging the introduction of positive change through discussion. The video documents a day in the life of two very different types of residential home - one is small charity-funded home for six adults with learning and physical disabilities, the other a local authority home with 47 elderly residents. On the audiotape residents, staff and inspectors discuss issues including sensitive areas around personal dignity and attitudes to death. Principles underlying the presentation are each resident’s right to privacy, choice, dignity, rights, independence and fulfilment.
