Making a Drama of It (2 Parts)
- Synopsis
- As the emphasis in television drama shifts from multi-camera studio production to single camera (film or video) shooting on location, this programme is a useful demonstation of the many and complex matters involved in mounting a drama production. It shows both the theory and practice involved and explores the thinking behind the decisions that are made. The tapes comprise a fly-on-the wall documentary which concludes with a 12-minute drama episode specially written to bring out the features particular to shooting drama on location. Starting with the director making casting decisions, the programme moves through the visualisation of scenes, how logistics and the use of available resources influence selection of the chosen location, scheduling, the actual interpretive and characterisation processes between actors and director in rehearsal and shooting, and the final editing itself. The whole team is brought into the problems raised and resolved.
