Magnetism (2 Parts)
- Synopsis
- Part 1 explains the Lorentz force by considering a free-moving positively charged particle in a uniform magnetic field and the ‘right-hand’ screw is defined. The helical motion resulting from the application of magnetic force to moving particles (both positive and negative) is then dealt with. Continues with an explanation of the forces exerted by a magnetic field on the carriers in a current carrying semi-conductor material (Hall effect). Finally the forces on a straight conductor and rectangular loop are examined.
Part 2 describes the magnetic field produced by a long wire carrying a current and defines the relationship between magnetic induction B and magnetic field strength H. The magnetic field around a circular hoop, a solenoid and a toroid are then analysed. Concludes with an explanation of the three types of magnetism - ferro, para and dia. - Language
