Little by Little 1
- Synopsis
- Broadcast on C4 on 27/8/89.
Examines the concept of nanotechnology, which inveolves re-arranging atoms to create any article layer by layer, thus eliminating the need for complex manufacturing processes. On a nanometric scale a nanometre is one billionth of a metre. In physics, chemistry, microscopy and engineering scientists are developing new methods of analysing and manipulating individual atoms, based on programmable machine tools (assemblers) whose cogs, wheels and arms are a billion times smaller than the average factory machine tool, and which will perform the construction of a wide range of molecular structures to complex atomic specifications, in much the same way as the cell builds protein. - Language
