Little Boxes
- Synopsis
- Discusses the changes in modern industrial design brought about by microtechnology and the tendency to house all new domestic and commercial electronic equipment in the ubiquitous ‘black box’. Stephen Bailey, Director of the Boiler House project at the Victoria and Albert Museum, traces the history of industrial design from the late 19th century when the Arts and Crafts Movement solved a similar crisis over the design of mass produced goods. Looks at the aesthetics of the Bauhaus and its influence on modern design. Stephen Bailey talks to some of the exponents of the major movements including Dieter Rams, Tom Woolfe, Raymond Loewy and Ettore Sotsass.
