Lindisfarne Gospels, The

Synopsis
The story of the creation of the Lindesfarne Gospels by Anglo-Saxon monks following the death of Cuthbert in 687, combining location footage (Holy Island or Lindesfarne, Chester-le-Street, Farne Islands, Durham) with images from other contemporary manuscripts, including the Lichfield Gospels, and shows individual pages close-up. Explores the process of making and decorating an illuminated manuscript, with detailed evidence drawn from the manuscript itself.
