- Synopsis
- In 1976 Elizabeth Grace began a documentary portrait of her daughte Lily, who was born with Down’s syndrome. Lily lived with her family in a small California town and attended local schools. She became a pioneer for mainstreaming and full inclusion. The cvideos capture Lily as a school girl, a young woman and an adult.
1 (1978): Shows Lily at age 10, seen in her classroom and on the playground as wellas at at home, coming to terms with the academic and social pressures upon her.
2 (1988): Shows Lily at age 20, with scenes of her graduation from high school and her life as a restaurant works and resident of a group home. She expresses her desire to live independently and to have a boyfriends; her mother expresses concerns about the realities of greater indepnedence for Lily.
3 (1997): Lily now has her own apartment as part of an independent living programme and is working a supermarket. She is seen interacting with customers and staff there and in her apartment with friends and family. With her caseworker, she deals with the realities of bill paying and menu planning, and she discusses frankly what her disability means to her. - Language
