Life Cycle of the Tsetse Fly, The

Synopsis
Several of the 22 species of testse found in central Africa carry the trypanosome parasites that cause African sleeping sickness in man and ngana in cattle and other domestic animals. The video presents the life cycle of the tsetse fly: it does not lay eggs but gives birth to one living lava at a time. The lava burrows into the earth and pupates; when the pupa hatches the adult fly struggles to the surface and goes in search of its first blood meal. (9 minutes)
