Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter, The

Synopsis
Concerned with the wartime introduction of female labour into industry to keep the shipyards, munitions factories etc. in operation. The director concentrates on five of the 700 personal accounts that she gathered from former female welders. Uses archive footage, contemporary songs, posters and newspaper comment to illustrate the media’s attitude to women and highlights the divisions of American society into black and white, men and women.
