Lichen World
- Synopsis
- Looks at the diversity and distribution of lichens in various study sites (graveyards) in North Yorkshire. Allows sampling of lichen species interactively by ‘throwing’ electronic quadrats on the gravestones and collecting data on the number of lichen species sampled in each throw. As data accumulate, the displays of selected diversity indices and models change dynamically, revealing the relationship between index value and sample number, and between the true number of species and estimates arrived at in different ways. Approximately four hours of teaching material.
