Lewisian of North-West Scotland, The

Synopsis
A field excursion to the Lewisian, which forms the northwestern foreland of the Caledonian orogenic belt in northern Scotland. It is overridden by thrust masses of Moinian metasediments along the Moint Thrust Zone. That it forms part of the crust underpinning the Caledonide belt is shown be deformed inliers of Lewisian within the Moines.
