Lessons from Gulam: Asian Music in Bradford

Synopsis
Bradford has a community of 60,000 Muslim Asians. The film is a detailed study of musical culture and education within this community. Gulam Musa is the principal character and he is shown as a teachers and as a singer of ‘qawwali’, which is both a form of devotional music and media-disseminated popular music. The film gives a detailed account of this particular Indian music and music education, both in homes and at school. Explains several aspects of Asian music, especially drumming, and contrasts education in the school with the music played in the home.*
