Laxton
- Synopsis
- This film about Laxton in Nottinghamshire, as well as telling the story of the evolution of the village and the continued existence of its common field system, also shows what agricultural life is like in this medieval survival. The Bailiff of the Open Fields, Edmund Rose, provides additional commentary as the camera records the meetings of the Field Jury, the Court Leet, the Hay Auction, the Field Inspection and the Rent Dinner - events that were common in the reign of Elizabeth I but which disappeared with the enclosures and improving landlords and which are now unique to Laxton.
