Land is Bad, The: The Mursi

Synopsis
This is Leslie Woodhead’s fourth DISAPPEARING WORLD film made with the Mursi of south-west Ethiopia since 1985. He has filmed the continuing story of a people as they fight to maintain their identity through drought and hunger and war - and now in the face of increasing contact with the outside world and modern Ethiopia. The lives of the Mursi, still affected by drought and hunger, are being changed by government and tourists, and threatened by the neighbouring Bume tribe armed with automatic rifles. Ten per cent of the population, mainly women and children, were massacred on one day in 1987.
