Key to Radiation Safety, The (3 Parts)

Synopsis
Training in contamination control, detection and decontamination for workers in research laboratories using open source radioactive materials. Each video is in two parts: first a typical laboratory procedure is performed by a technician showing good and bad oractuce. Next the procedure is repeated, with surface contaminated events highlighted under ultraviolet light, with fluorescent material simulating radioactivity. This readily identifies the procedures and oversights common to laboratory workers.
1 (1987): Deals with surface contamination which does not pose a significant airborne hazard, showing how easily it can be transferred to other surfaces or people. Covers both ‘fixed’ and ‘removable’ contamination and looks at techniques for preventing its spread.
2 (1990): Shows a laboratory survey with the technician using both good and poor techniques, followed by a repeat of the procedure using ultraviolet light. Demonstrates the what, where and when of general lab, immediate work area, and personal surveys.
3 (1991): Looks at physical and chemical decontamination, and the techniques for coping with personal (skin, eye, hair, internal) decontamination as well as total facility and equipment decontamination. Discusses the need for an ‘emergency response plan’.
