A clinical study module for nurse training intended to develop knowledge of the principles and practice of compression therapy in the management of patients with venous leg ulcers. Illustrates normal venous drainage and pathological changes associated with the development of venous ulcers. Explains the role of compression therapy in promoting the healing of venous ulcers and in preventing their recurrence, and summarises the principles of assessment of patients with leg ulcers. Classifies the different properties and types of bandages used for compression therapy and demonstrates techniques for applying the four-layer bandage and the short stretch bandage as well as fitting compression hosiery.
