Synopsis
Based around the unique slide collection built up over more than 30 years by Reginald Hill. The two videos trace the development of enamelling from its earliest origins to the present day. The emergence and evolution of enamelling techniques such as cloisonne and champleve are discussed. Areas covered include Mycenaean jewellery, medieval ecclesiastical enamelling, Renaissance jewellery, the work of Jean and Henri Toutin, Japanese enamels of the nineteenth century, Faberge, Art Nouveau, the post-World War 2 enamelling renaissance and the current European scene.
