Joseph’s Dream
- Synopsis
- Traces the planning and execution of Joseph Chamberlain’s great improvement scheme for Birmingham. Carried out under a Slum Clearance Act, the final result was a wide and curving Parisian boulevard lined with fine shops, theatres, hotels and coffee houses, a wintergarden and law courts. Chamberlain’s business acumen saw that the street was self-financing within ten years of it being opened.
