Janice Shinebourne and Beryl Gilroy with Susheila Nasta

Synopsis
Janice Shinebourne and Beryl Gilroy are each interviewed separately. Janice Shinebourne discusses her Guyanese background, the influence of the landscape, social conditions, her family on her writing - and the attitudes in Guyana to the first Caribbean writers. Much time is devoted to a detailed discussion of her first novel ‘Timepiece’. Beryl Gilroy talks about her experiences as a black teacher in London schools and the function of literature in the education of children from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
