Jacques Derrida and Edward Said
- Synopsis
- Two 40-minute interviews by philosopher Johnathan Ree looking at the interviewees’ work in relationship to human rights issues. Jacques Derrida, a leading figure in deconstructivism and the transformation of literary and cultural studies, discusses his ideas, including the relevance of his theories to human rights. Literary critic Edward Said talks about his writings on political geography as well as the Palestinian struggle. He outlines his theories about national identity, and the artificially Western-constructed ‘East’.
