Art and Architecture of Gardens, The

Synopsis
The drawings in the exhibition were chosen by Jane Brown and are included in her book ‘The Art and Architecture of English Gardens’. The exhibition displays some eighty images relating to the design of gardens over 375 years. Each drawing has been included for its intrinsic interest and beauty rather than to present any historical sequence or illustrate a theory. They represent a small part of the garden material held by the Drawings Collection, which is not exclusively architects’ material and which was often admitted to the care of RIBA when it was regarded as worthless and unfashionable. The exhibition coincided with a concerted effort to identify our national resources of garden and landscape documents.
