- Synopsis
- The tape is divided into five sections. 1: INTRODUCTION AND OPENING OF THE SESSION. Jane, a fictional client, comes to see a counsellor because she is feeling confused. Six months ago her husband left her for another woman. She is angry and wants someone to take away the pain. She puts the counsellor under pressure. 2: DEVELOPMENT OF THE SESSION. With skillful handling Jane begins to explain more of her situation. 3: FINDING A FOCUS. The counsellor draws out the salient features of Jane’s situation and begins to help her look at her own part in it. 4: MAKING ARRANGEMENTS. A brief session in which the counsellor helps Jane to arrange another counselling session. 5: DEBRIEFING. Client and counsellor (especially the client) are helped to debrief, and reflect upon how the interview went, from their respective viewpoints.
