Ingestion, Digestion and Defecation in Paramecium

Synopsis
Paramecia are found in the open on rotting plants where they feed on bacteria. In the laboratory they also ingest yeast cells which are dyed with Congo red. The formation of the nutritional vacuoles and defecation of excretion vacuoles can be easily followed. Sub-microscopic processes on the intake of food, digestion and defecation are shown in animated sequences. Time-lapse.
