Infection Hazards of Respiratory Therapy Equipment

Synopsis
25% of all infections acquired in hospitals are infections of the respiratory tract. It is known that a major factor in the spread of respiratory tract infection within hospitals is the use of anaesthetic and respiratory therapy equipment. Reviews the respiratory tract in relation to its structure, normal flora, pathogens and normal defences against infection. Looks at the role of respiratory therapy and inhalation anaesthesia in the spread of infection, and at the measures which can be taken to minimise this hazard to a patient’s health.
