- Looks at the conflict involving Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam between 1956 and 1973, asking why the US went to Vietnam and why they lost the war. Deals with the outcomes of the 1956 Geneva conference, ‘Americanisation’ policies, strategies and objectives of both sides, the assassination of Diem, the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, the Tet Offensive and the ‘television war’, US President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s decision not to seek another term of office, ‘Vietnamisation’, the peace movement, the peace agreement, the withdrawal of US troops, and the collapse of the South.
