In-Flight Movie

Synopsis
Looks at how and why birds fly. Using remarkable new film techniques the audience is given a ‘bird’s eye’ view of the world. Shows a goose’s perpective of flying among clouds and what a fast-flying teal at a height of 200 feet sees. A peregrine’s eye-view of hunting, a buzzard’s search for rising air, and a starling’s trip as it skims along a hedgerow are included. Many of the filming techniques were specially devised for the programme. In order to obtain a bird’s eye view of a flight over Istanbul, a model aircraft with the same wing design and markings was constructed and a specially built lightweight camera was then placed in the nose. The storks accepted it as another bird and the result was the first shots taken from the middle of a flock.
