Synopsis
Selected photographs, drawings and designs from the collections of the Public Record Office.
1 (1995): Victorian advertising and commercial art - posters and show cards used for advertising the products and services from second half of the 19th century. The images show contemporary fashions, and home and workplace interiors, and reveal the prevailing class and gender stereotypes of the age. (AVRC MM35a)
2 (1996): Includes wallpaper and carpet designs from 1839, when registration of designs of goods became compulsory, together with work by noted designers such as William Morris and Christopher Dresser.
3 (1995): Documents illustrating British history from 1939 to 1945, from British morale-boosting pictures and public information to World War 2 propaganda. The material covers all apects of the war, from the planning of the D- day operation to the preparation of food. Documents include Cabinet and Foreign Office papers, propaganda posters, and reports on the military campaigns. (AVRC MM35b)
4 (1996): 100 photographs related to the Royal Air Force and its predecessors, with pictures from the early days of flying, flight in World War 1, the Battle of Britain, the Dumbusters raid, and raids over Germany.
5 (1996): A selection of images on transport, ranging from the canal boat to the diesel locomotive, with many examples of posters and other ephemera.
