Applications of Probability

Synopsis
Seven sequences of computer animation designed to aid understanding of the various types of random process.
Band A: Extensions of the Poisson Process, displays some realisations of Poisson processes.
Band B: The Galton-Watson Model, displays three sets of realisations of a branching process.
Band C: The Unrestricted Random Walk, shows the progress of a one-dimensional random walk in two cases.
Band D: Random Walks with Reflecting Barriers, repeats the simulations of the previous band for a one-dimensional random walk on the set {0, ..., 10}, with reflecting barriers at 0 and 10.
Band E: General Service Times, shows simulations of a single-server quere with random arrivals.
Band F: The Stochastic General Epidemic Model, shows graphs of infectives versus susceptibles for an epidemic which starts with a single infective.
Band G: Time Series, shows the development of moving-average MA(1) and autoregressive AR(1) and AR(2) models for time series

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
