Shows the making of the complex and high-quality ikats, ceremonial cloths with unique designs as woven in traditional villages of Sumba in Indonesia. Using indigo and a red dye from tree roots, the people of this remote island have development the skill of ikat weaving to a very high level, using local material and traditional designs. Contents includ: spinning; tying; dyeing; weaving; design; weaving of supplementary warp cloths. Filmed entirely in Sumba.
