Hydrates Under the Heat Microscope

Synopsis
The phenomena to be observed on heating hydrates in air and in paraffin oil are demonstrated on Dr Kofler’s special heat-bench microscope. Most hydrates are shown to behave thermodynamically as inhomogenously melting molecule compounds which are distinguished by the fact that their maxima are always covered by the fusion curve of a higher melting form of crystal. Graphs supplement microphotographs to demonstrate the behaviour of the various hydrates.*
